I tried checking my state return status and although turbotax shows it as being accepted, the state site says it hasn't been submitted - what do I need to do?

Nothing.

Like the IRS, many states are not accepting formally tax returns until next week and their websites haven't been updated to reflect the returns they have already received.

Check again after January 28, 2019.
