Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I think I may have accidentally filed my 2017 taxes for this year would there be anything I could do to fix this? I didn't file last year and I was trying to get that out the way so I could correctly

if you used the above software what you did was submit your 2018 return using 2017 data.

there is nothing you can do now.  wait to see if its accepted or rejected. if rejected (it probably will be if you had a W-2 because there will be a mismatch)  you can fix and resubmit.   if accepted, you'll have to wait until you receive your refund or the IRS accepts payment for the balance due and then file an amended return.

don't forget to file your 2017 return which needs 2017 software and you can no longer e-file it.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return with the right year info.

If the IRS accepts your return, then you have to wait until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return 1040X and mail it in. You cannot e-file an amended return.  Meanwhile, DO NOT change anything on your return until you start the amended return.

The 1040X form for 2018 hasn't been approved yet by IRS. Please, keep checking the following information on how to amend your return; it will be updated once the 2018 form is released:

Then to do  2017,  You can  buy the download for the last 3 prior years.  Buy the download here     <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/">https://turbotax.intuit.com/persona...

How to download it after you buy it
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901289-how-do-i-download-the-software-i-purchased-at-turbotax-com...>

You have to print and mail prior year returns.  When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.  Don’t forget state.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  You have 3 years to file for a refund.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
