I submitted an amended return to take advantage of a qualified energy system tax credit. I printed out the voucher but not sure if my bank willStill withdraw the org amt?

Does the printed voucher erase my original request to have money sent via my bank for taxes owed? I originally owed $2100 but with tax credit I know only owe 1500. How to confirm the original amount will not be pulled ?

Yes.   But Turbo Tax isn’t involved with the debit.  Once they send your return they are done with their part.  They only pass on your bank info for the IRS to take it out of your bank.  Turbo Tax doesn’t check if you entered the right bank account number.   So watch your bank.

You will still get the refund from the first original return or still need to pay the first tax due.  In fact you should not even amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.

Then the amended 1040X return is only for the difference you get back or owe.  I think the cover sheet shows what the original return WOULD have been if you did it right the first time.  Ignore the new 1040 that might print out.

Go by the actual 1040X.  Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund.  If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16.  If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

If you have a tax due, do not send the 1040V.  Just include a check with the 1040X.  Ignore the 1040V.  That is for the original return or what the original return would have been if it didn’t need correcting.  Don’t pay the amount on the 1040V.  Pay the amount on the actual 1040X line 20.

Thank you for your response . I was not aware I should have waited . I thought it would be better to fix it sooner than later. So at this point what should I do… I owed $2100 when initially filing in February.  I was reminded that we would be eligible for tax credit for the energy system today, March 26…I amended and was prompted to print out voucher 1040-V with an amount of $1506 owed. $600 less the original amount.  I originally set up for the $2100 to be debited from bank on April 13 on TT during my initial filing.  Will this amount still be pulled? And I should NOT send in the $1506 which is listed on 1040V? Or should I send in the $1506 because now that my amended is listed as accepted it will delete my original bank debit?

As I said above do not use the 1040V.  The 2100 tax due on the original return should still be pulled from  your bank account.  The IRS should pay you the $600.   I don’t know if they will deposit it or send you a check.   Does the amended return show the 600 on Line 20?

Line 16 is original amount owed showing $2106.

Line 20 is blank and line 21 is showing $600 as well as line 22.

I also see on the downloaded pdf that there are 4 1040 ES vouchers along with the 1040 V.  I’m guessing to ignore all those as well?

Oh I’m tired.  Yes $600 on line 22 for refund.  Ignore the 1040V and 1040ES estimated payments.

I am Tired as well, and I appreciate your answers and help.  So bottom line here is that TT will still facilitate my original debit of $2106 on April 13 and then at some point in the next few months I should receive a $600 refund via check or

DD? Correct and ignore anything else with vouchers ?

Thank you for all your help. And I’m not sure you can answer this, but will this cause any confusion on the IRS side on what I have done and the vouchers created. ( I now hate the word voucher ). I hope you get some rest and know you are appreciated!

No problem.  The voucher and estimated payments don’t get send with your return so the IRS won’t be expecting them.
