what type of entity did you use to enter the 1041 k-1? it should be trusts and estates. not partnership or S-corp.
you use the amend icon and then enter the k-1 info using the proper entity type.
I selected trusts.
What is the exact rejection code or message ?
Form 1040-X Other Taxes Amount in Correct Number or Amount Group must be equal to amended Form 1040, Total Other Amount
Reject Code F1040x-009
It is a trust estate distribution that is to be divided equally between my brother and I. I entered half of the total distributed amount. on my return.
I am totally frustrated after attempting to correct the issue.
Are you trying to alter the figures reported on the K-1 by only taking 1/2 ? Did your brother not get his own K-1 form ?
I entered the amount posted (50% of the distributed amount) from my K1 form. My brother's K1 form was sent to him all ready.
TurboTax did not ask if there are other beneficiaries for the trust distribution.
If I entered the total amount of the distributed amount, the application calculates the total tax on my amended return.
Ok .. so you entered the amount directly from the K-1.
Now look at the new 1040 in the PDF and compare it to the old 1040 ... the error code says something is not adding up in the "other taxes" section of the form ... review line 23 of the form 1040 and the Sch 2 from each return ... are there any differences ?
Also look at the form 1040X …
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return. If you paid nothing already then this line should be zero.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received. If you have not received your refund yet then you need to wait for it. If the refund changes from what you expected then this line must reflect that change.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
