I started off thinking I had a W-2, but that is incorrect. I need to file using self employed form and 1099-misc. How do I change to the correct forms?

You will have to delete the Form W-2 from your tax return. Do this while in your return:

1. Select Tax Tools in the left side menu 
2. Click Tools
3. Under Other helpful links, choose Delete a Form
4. Scroll to Form W-2
5. Click Delete
6. Confirm by clicking the Delete Selected Form button.

The Form W-2 will be removed from your return.

To enter the Form 1099-MISC into your return, type Form 1099-MISC in Search, click the Jump to form 1099-misc link or the Go to Form 1099-MISC button, and follow the prompts. 

If box 7 of the Form 1099-MISC is completed, then you are considered an independent contractor, and you will have to upgrade to access the Form 1040 Schedule C.
