I started a 2017 return online, but didn't file it. I just downloaded the desktop version so that I can file it, but I can't figure out how to access the return.

You have a decision to make.  If your tax return was almost complete, you can pay the PLUS fee and get the tax file.  You don't have to pay the full software fee, just the much smaller fee to access your return.  How do I purchase TurboTax PLUS so I can get my .tax file?

If you had only started the return in TurboTax Online, you can just start over using the Desktop software which would require a little more data entry, but it doesn't cost anything.   Unless it is a really complicated return, it is the better option - if you have access to all your prior year documents of course..;)
