If the information provided is for a closed or invalid account, or the name is not exactly the same on your bank account and tax return, the government will mail you a refund check. Please see the TurboTax FAQ here for more information.
Hey KatrinaLO,
I am pretty sure the bank information is correct since the same bank account was used for recent two years and I successfully received the refund from IRS for last two years. Also, I have already received the directly deposit refund from FTB(CA state) for current year(2022).
Is there any possible reasons, ? And the IRS tracker says the mail is scheduled on 2/10. Is there anyway to change it before it is mailed.
Only the IRS can provide that information. If there was an error in your routing or bank account number or the bank rejected the deposit, then that would cause the IRS to mail your refund check. Please see the below TurboTax Help Article for information on contacting the IRS:
How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?
Once they have it set for a check, there is no way to change the method they are sending.
Sometimes the IRS will mail a check if they detect something that seems like part of a pattern of fraud. One example is too many deposits going to the same account (since most taxpayers don't have that many separate direct deposits.) The IRS does not disclose all their reasons.
Ultimately, the IRS views mailing a check as more secure, and they are taking steps to try and ensure refund security. This is ultimately to your benefit even though it is inconvenient.
So did you end up getting your check through direct deposit or did they mail it ?
If the IRS sends a check, it will be through the mail, but you would have a date on when that check is being mailed. If it's direct deposited, the date given by the IRS would be when you should look for that deposit to be made or close to that date.
