I received my state return but still haven’t received my federal yet. Is it possible that they get lost during a direct deposit?

You would want to check Where's my refund on IRS site. Sometimes the state can process faster than federal. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Also if you see a direct deposit date the IRS asks that you wait 5 days for the bank to process the deposit before calling the bank.
