IRS questing amt of refund? I have been using turbo tax for over 10 years and thought it would see if any errors were made. They question 1040a line 40.
I had to send W-2 and 1099R but they didn't ask about the federal tax amount
deducted from our SSA-1099 which I included in federal tax refund, what I didn't see was the amount Taxable on line 14b from 14a SS benefits? Is this what caused the question to raise a flag with the IRS, Please respond, I have to send letter and all attached w-2 and 1099-R to IRS asap. Thank you.

No, the taxable amount of the Social security benefits doesn't matter. They are only questioning the amount of tax you entered as withheld from all your different income sources. Those withholdings appear on the forms you entered in the program and the IRS received a copy of them. The letter could be due simply to the fact that the IRS failed to receive their copy of a particular form or could be caused by an incorrect entry of one of those amounts. You can look at your original forms (1099s of all types, including the SSA 1099 and W-2s to add them up and see if the tax showing as withheld matches what's on line 40. If it does, then the reason for the letter is most likely that they are missing a form in their records.
