I received a second W2 from my employer instead of just one I had 2 and one had much less on it. It was not expected at all.
I paid taxes out of my check all year, how do I go about fixing this? Would I be able to file it again next year since I can't file it after unless I amend it? Or do I have to amend it since it's part of last years after I already filed. I am not very good with the process of filing or what I need to do or how everything works 100% so I could use some advise here.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will have to include the W-2 in the year that is shown on the form. For example, the 2021 W-2 has to be included on your 2021 tax return. You can not add it to another tax year.
If you have already filed your return then you will need to see if your return gets accepted or rejected.
You will have to file an amended return after this one is processed and payment has been made, unless it gets flagged for missing information.
It probably won't be flagged for missing information for 3 years. In which case, the penalties and interest would be adding up. Once everything from this year is settled, file an amended return unless your original rejects so you can fix it now. Besides, you may have more forms you were not expecting show up.
