I received a revised Form 1098. Because new federal tax law, the form now includes mortgage insurance premiums I paid. I already e-filed. Do I need to amend my return?

You can amend. But, If you took the standard deduction this won't make a difference.

If you took itemized deductions, or added all of your deductions because you wanted to see which was best for you, then you should go ahead and amend to find out if your refund increases.

To amend:

Log in, and click the blue Amend link in the bottom left side of the paragraph.

Click here for specific amending instructions. 2017

NOTE: You MUST wait for the original returns to be accepted or rejected before doing anything. All amendments are required to be mailed.

If your return is rejected you can make the needed changes then resubmit them by E-file.

If your return is accepted you MUST wait until they have been fully processed and you have either received the original refund or paid the original balance due before amending them.

I did take itemized deductions so I started to amend return with new form 1098.  But after I entered mortgage insurance premiums, it said I already have that tax break and my additional refund was $0. I don't understand why my refund would not increase.  But since it did not, do I still need to file a amended return?

I also itemized and amended my return to add MIP, but my refund amount still says, "$0", why? I have over $3,000 that I added to this deduction.

It is probably because you maxed out your deductions already.

I amended as well and I originally paid a few hundred dollars. Now turbotax says "$0 refund" - does that mean the money will be refunded to me or should I just not bother to amend?

I have the same issue as TinaC678, is maxing out the deductions possible?

Same problem here. I went to amend my return, pretty sure I'm not "maxed out" on any deductions and yet adding in the mortgage insurance premium didn't change my refund.

Same here....It says that nothing changes. So I stopped amending it. Not sure if I need to amend my accepted taxes, as there is no implication. Please advice

Found that if your AGI exceeds 109,000, you don't get the PMI deduction, so that's probably the issue for people not seeing a change.
