I received a corrected 1098t and with the update, I owe money instead of getting the refund with the original form. Why did this minor change have such an impact?

The amount in box 1 slightly increased on my correct 1098t and now instead of a refund, I owe money. Why is this?

If you are filing an amended return, remember that this is showing the difference. If you owe, the 1040x is assuming you got, or will get, the refund as well. 

If you are still working on your original return and you have not yet filed, be sure the original education information has been completely deleted before enter the corrected 1098-T.
