TurboTax does not pay your tax due. Do you mean that you put banking information so that the IRS could debit your account for your tax due? What did you enter----maybe you entered the information incorrectly.
If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

How did you pay it? Has it come out of your bank account? Maybe your bank account info was wrong and they couldn't take it out of your account. If you paid it then send them a copy of your check or bank account showing it coming out.
Was the bill for the amount you owe or is it a bill for more? The IRS has been adjusting a lot of returns this year.
I'm having the same problem. I set up the electronic withdrawal and I also got a late fee.
How did you select to pay it? Did you enter your bank info for the IRS to pull it out? Maybe your bank account info was wrong.
You can pay the IRS directly at
Is there a way to check what you typed from your previous tax returns on the website? All I see are documents and xxxx-ed out numbers for deposit.
Same here. Turbo Tax does not let you E-file if you have a balance due and you dont include payment at time of e-filing. I also had a refund due from the State. And again TurboTax will not let you e-file for that refund if you dont also pay the IRS balance due FIRST. Both have to be done...IRS first then the state.
So why all of a sudden 2 months later do I get a bill from the IRS? The banking info was correct. I messaged TurboTax but of course received no reply. Trying to get an agent on the phone at the
IRS has been impossible so far.
Dont know what to do. Any one ever get a reply when you tried contacting TurboTax?
@DuskiPW You can easily tell the software that you will mail a check to pay your federal tax due, and then you certainly can e-file your federal return. Whether you follow through and actually mail a check is on you. TurboTax never knows how, when or even if you pay your tax due. If you enter incorrect banking information for a debit or do not mail a payment or pay online, then eventually you will hear from the IRS asking for payment with interest. If you have bank or credit card records to prove that you paid, then you can provide the proof to the IRS.
You don't have to pay the federal tax due to efile federal and state. You can say you will mail a check. You can get a state refund without paying the federal tax due. Federal and state are completely separate separate.
Better check your return and see how you selected to pay the federal tax due. Maybe your bank account was wrong and they couldn't take it out of your account. How to pay a tax due

You do have to pay any Turbo Tax fees to efile.
Thanks. It was the correct bank account that was input. The same account was used and charged/efiled the same night for my brother's tax return. I definitely got an error message telling me that I had to file the federal first. I took a screenshot of it and printed it. And i screenshot the page showing the acct number and all too.
I was trying to file and get the state refund of $1988 first before paying the IRS $4103. I've used TurboTax for over 20 years and never had this particular problem.
It was paid from a business account and many pages of statements to go thru so I thought i would try here first.
Thanks for trying to help. I'll just have to pay it again. Thank goodness the interest is only about $25.
thanks for trying to help. I also replied above with what I did. I will just pay it online and pay the $25 interest. Frustrating and confusing.
Well yes you have to file federal first and be accepted before efiling the state return. But you don't need to pay the federal tax due first. You can select to mail a check for the tax due and pay it later. So I don't understand the problem.
Did you try to pay it out of the same bank account as your brother's account? That might be why they couldn't debit that account. Is your name on the account?
