I owe taxes for 2017 but hope to have a refund for 2018 and would like to pay the taxes from 2017 with my refund. Is this possible

If you owe tax from a 2017 tax return, then the IRS will automatically offset your refund to pay the back tax. If there is any refund left over, you will receive the remainder. You do not have to enter anything on your tax return about this--the IRS will take care of it and send you a letter afterward.
