Did your dad use Online TurboTax to prepare and efile your 2018 return? If so, you can check online to see if it was successfully efiled. Either you or he should log into the same online account used to file the 2018 return, and at the Tax Home, scroll down to "Your Tax Returns & Documents", expand that section, and choose tax year 2018. What does it say there about the 2018 return--does it show the efile was accepted or rejected?
Or did your dad use desktop software (CD/download) to prepare and efile your 2018 return? If so, does he know for sure the efile was accepted?
In any case, if your 2018 return was successfully filed and accepted, you can phone the IRS to see what became of your Federal refund.
IRS: 800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
@mfdoneghy If it turns out that your 2018 return was not e-filed successfully, then you can still print it, sign it in ink and mail it to the IRS to get your refund. There is no penalty for filing late when you are receiving a refund.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
