IRS Individual Online Account
You have multiple complications. Did you also choose to pay your TurboTax fees from your federal refund?
First---check the IRS refund site to see if your refund was issued.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
What does it say?
Change your address with the IRS:
https://www.irs.gov/faqs/irs-procedures/address-changes/address-changes
If you e-filed:
Banking information for direct deposit is wrong or closed
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.
Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information
If your refund is sent back to the IRS—- make certain that the address you entered on your Form 1040 is correct. And…open all mail, even if it looks like junk mail.
If the refund was issued but you did not receive it because of the incorrect address:
https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-3911-taxpayer-statement-regarding-refund
And....if you chose to pay your fees from your federal refund it gets even more complicated.
If you chose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund, but entered wrong or closed bank account information for your direct deposit, you are going to have an aggravating, frustrating situation. Your refund will go back to the third party bank. The third party bank might issue and mail you a check, or they might send your refund back to the IRS and then you will have to wait for the IRS to mail you a check.
If the third party bank mails the check, it will come in a plain envelope via first class mail so make sure you open all mail and do not assume anything is junk mail without opening it. While you are waiting, make sure that the address you entered on your tax return is correct, or your problem will be even worse.
When you choose “refund processing” your refund goes FIRSTfrom the IRS to the third party bank. Then the bank takes your fees out of your refund and sends the rest of the refund to you, using the direct deposit information that YOU entered when you filed your tax return.
