I need to amend my file by mail return before I mail it. How do I do that?

An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

Or do you need to change the original return before you file by mail?  Then to get back in to your return, click on Add a State to let you back in.  Then you can fix it and print it again to mail or switch to efiling.  You do not amend if you haven't filed the first return.
