You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February, But wait until your return has been processed.
Currently, the 1040X is scheduled to be available 2/18/26.
However, you can use this tool to check availability of forms, including 1040X: Tax form availability with the most up-to-date information.
Thank you for the date update
It is not available 2/18/26, I think it might be available 2/25/26 according to the Intuit app tax form availability.

Any update to when the amended tax return forms will be available?
It should be available starting this weekend.
The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 03/04/2026
An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...
I am not happy with TurboTax 2025, the support asked me to wait for amendment and finally when it was available yesterday, the 1040-X failed twice to E-file my return!!! What a mess??? What time the correct update will be available? I cannot expect such software disaster from intuit.
The 1040X for Amending a 2025 return should be available by March 4th. Make sure you save a copy of your original filed return, and that you've received your Refund or your payment for Balance Due has been processed before submitting an amendment.
There's no rush to file an Amended Return; it takes up to 12 weeks to process and won't catch up to or correct your original return; it's processed separately.
@dileshdave I have exactly the same problem and I'm not happy about it either. To make matters worse, my Amended State return was accepted but the Federal one was rejected. Go figure!
I went through the amended return process for my 2025 Taxes using TurboTax 2025 Premier desktop. Everything looks correct band I can see the generated 1040X form in the forms view. It is also correct. However if I try to print this form it generates a 4 page image with the first 2 pages blank. These are the pages that should have the 1040X form. The last 2 pages are merely worksheets without meaningful numbers.
When I e-file no 1040X form is sent. Several others have experienced the same problem with the 1040X form. Help!
