I mailed my tax return in 4 weeks ago but the irs website still says it doesn't know the status of my return

Did you use a mailing service that tracked it so you know it was received?  It does take 4 weeks or more before you can see the status of a mailed return on the IRS site.

If you did not use certified mail it is not being tracked. You will just have to keep checking on the IRS site.

TurboTax is unable to provide any information on the status of your return. You can try contacting the IRS by phone, but they will only help you if it has been more than 21 days since your return was accepted. See below for more information.
