You cannot file early. You need to wait until you have your W2. You will not get a refund until you file with the W2. Filing has not opened yet. If you are referring to the stimulus payment, that is based on 2019 taxes.
No do not do that. Even if Turbo Tax lets you file early they will just hold the returns until the IRS opens after Jan 27 or later. And the program is not up to date yet. This year there will be more updates with all the CARE act Stimulus Checks, etc. be patient. You can't get your refund early.
@MissMCJ - stating the stimulus payment is based on 2019 taxes is misleading!
The payment is an advance of 2020 taxes due and uses the 2019 tax information as the basis of making the payment.
What really matters is the 2020 tax return filing status and income. That calculates both stimulus' due you LESS what you have already received, but not less than zero.
thank you,
if you have a direct deposit a/c on file with the IRS (usually from '19 return) that's where the second stimulus will be deposited. TT opens e-filing earlier than the IRS but all that means is that the return sits on TT servers until the IRS opens e-filing in late January
also if you file early and there's an error there's no way to correct it until the IRS fully processes your return. this could take months. then you would have to submit an amended return that could take an additional 4 to 8 months to process.
