I'm being audited for a missing state tax return for the year 2017. How can I upload my old .tax files so I can create the missing return?

I'd like to file this return late, rather than take the default owed. I think I'll have some credits I can apply due to taxes owed to other states. It's long enough ago though, that I don't have access to all those old documents. Can I get them from the turbotax .tax file somehow?

No Turbo Tax doesn't have 2020 or prior programs.   They only support the last 3 years.  You might have to get the blank forms from your state or go to a local accountant or tax place.

So even though I have the TurboTax .tax document, there's no way to read it?

If you have old .tax files you can try converting them to pdf files at  Www.Taxprinter.Com 

It might be expensive.  They are not connected with Turbo Tax.  Use it at your own risk.
