I just filed my 2018 return and owe. But I made a mistake and actually owe less. Do I pay the first amount and then file an amendment to get the overpayment back?

Yes, that's correct. You would go ahead and send in your original tax due. Then you will do the amendment and wait for the IRS to send you a refund.

Yes, that's correct. You would go ahead and send in your original tax due. Then you will do the amendment and wait for the IRS to send you a refund.
