if accepted, you'll have to wait until it's fully processed and then file an amended return. if rejected, you can add the w-2 and resubmit.
It is possible the original return is still processing if you are trying to amend very quickly after filing the original.
Wait until your return is either accepted or rejected. If it is rejected, you can add the information along with fixing the e-file error. If it is accepted, you can amend as soon as the return is fully processed. If you are expecting a refund and are amending for an additional refund, the IRS states you should wait until you've received the original refund. Then you can file your amended return.
