Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I just e-filed our federal and state. I found out after I filed that I was listed as Primary Taxpayer and my husband as spouse. We always had it the other way around.

I want that to change like the previous years.  Do I need to file an amendment?

Don't do anything until you find out if the IRS will accept or reject your return --it will likely take a little longer than normal.

The IRS usually requires that you use the same sequence of names ('taxpayer' & 'spouse') each year.

Changing the primary name (first name listed aka 'taxpayer') will cause delays in processing your return (and changing the name sequence is not easily done).

If/when you transfer your 2015 tax data into your 2016 tax return TTax will automatically use the same sequence.

If you have already filed your return you MUST WAIT until the IRS accepts your return.  If the IRS accepts your return then there is nothing else to do --just use the same name sequence next year.

If your return is rejected, you can fix the name sequence at the same time as you make the corrections required by the IRS and re-submit your e-file.

Above all, DO NOT DO ANYTHING until your return is accepted or rejected.
