My wife died Dec 1st 2020. I filed married joint. I got notified that irs wanted death certificate. I sent certificate aug 1 the same day I received this request. Still have not received refund

The IRS is behind on processing non-routine matters such as this. You can try calling them to ask for an update, there number is 800-829-1040. Also, you can make an appointment at your local IRS office to talk to someone in person, sometimes you get a better response when you deal with someone face to face.
