I have paid for the software but haven't filed. funny how it charged me before I actually filed. can I get a refund if I decide to use my accountant?

You have to pay your TurboTax fees before you can file your return (unless you choose to have those fees deducted from your refund).

In either case, a payment method must be entered before you can file your return. TurboTax cannot collect any payment without you providing the payment information first. See the screenshot below for the "File" steps.

Once you pay those fees, you can't get a refund just because you decide to use an accountant. Your return has already been prepared and can be printed for filing (or e-filed).
