I have filed taxes for 2015 and still have not received my return after 8 months. There is no direct number for the IRS to help, what can I do to get my refund?

If you efiled, what do you see when you doublecheck with this tool to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted?

My files were accepted on turbotax and the IRS website says my refund is still being processed and I should receive within 21 days...its been 8 months!

I'll tell you how to reach a live person at the IRS, and also how to get the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service involved if necessary.  If you have trouble reaching the IRS, just start with the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

IRS:  800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri

When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

• First choose your language.  Listen to each menu before making the selection.
• Then press 2 for "personal income tax".
• Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".  
• Then press 4 "for all other questions."
• Then press 2 "for all other questions."  It should then transfer you to an agent, but there is likely to be a long wait.

I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.

If you don't get good info or results from the IRS, you can contact the IRS Taxpayer Advocate for your area. 

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
