The IRS will be sending you a letter about this.
Did you perhaps forget to claim credit for an estimated tax payment, or one made with an extension request?

This situation is not uncommon. The IRS has "adjusted" your refund. They send the money first and then the letter of explanation.

Some ideas to check........
Check over your federal return and see if you can see anything wrong especially in the payments section. Check the withholding on line 64 for your W2 (box 2) and any 1099 you got (box 4). Or see if there are any estimated payments missing that you made and forgot to enter. Or did you apply your prior year refund to this year's tax return?
