I forgot to claim my husband's supplemental insurance. He has medicare and a supplement that we paid $630 for in2016. Also a drug plan we paid $62 for in 2016. Would this make a difference in our refund? Should I file an amended tax form

Total medical expenses must be more than 10% (7 1/2% if over 65) of your adjusted gross income before they will be included in the computation of your itemized deductions.

Review the tax return that you filed. First determine if you itemized deductions or if you used the standard deduction. On Form 1040, it will indicate on line 40 if you used the standard deduction or itemized deductions. If you filed Form 1040A or 1040 EZ, you did not itemize deductions.

If you filed an Form 1040 and you itemized deductions, review schedule a. The medical calculation is on lines 1 to 4. File an amended return if the amounts you did not report will allow you to take a medical deduction.
