You can only deduct your church tythings in the year you make them. Tythings are deducted on Schedule A if you itemize your deductions If you do not itemize you can not take a deduction. If you itemized your deductions you can amend your return to deduct the tythings.
If you did not itemize you will not want to amend your return unless the tythings increase your deductions to an amount higher than the standard deduction.
For tax year 2019 the standard deductions will be $12,200 for single filers, $24,400 for married couples filing jointly and $18,350 for filing Head of Household.
