Yes--if you sent it with a return receipt request you will know they received it when you get that little card.  They also have tracking numbers so you can track it online if you saved your part of the receipt from sending it,

If you sent it certified to obtain a receipt, you will receive that back once the return has been received and signed for by the IRS.  There should also be tracking numbers provided on that form as well if you saved from your transaction.  You would just need to go to the particular shipping website. 

After 4 weeks per the IRS, you can track your the status of your refund on the IRS Where's My Refund site.  Please see the below link for additional information:
