Exactly what do you mean by that ???
Did you enter both the 2021 & 2022 incomes on the same tax form and filed it ? If so was the return processed by the fed/state yet ?
I worked through staffing agency and filed my 2021 taxes as my 2022 taxes then when I tried to fix it I actually amended the return and basically just put the 2022 w2s as the amendment and realized I messed up and don't know how to undo it
The original ones was processed and they gave me refund for the 2021 w2s that I filed as 2022 w2s but the amendment hasn't been done yet and I just don't want them to think I'm doing anything fraud wise
Ok ... so you put your 2021 income on the 2022 return ... did the IRS fully process that return yet ? Did you get the original refund or pay the balance due yet ? If yes then you must amend the return to correct the error.
Once you start the amendment process you will return to the W-2 imput screens and remove the 2021 information and enter the 2022 information then complete the REVIEW & FILES tabs to efile the amendment.
Before you file ... review the form 1040X carefully (there will also be a new 1040 form reflecting the info on column C to make things easier) …
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return. If you paid nothing already then this line should be zero.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received. If you have not received your refund yet then you need to wait for it. If the refund changes from what you expected then this line must reflect that change.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
