Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I filed my taxes with you already and paid. I realized I forgot to claim/write off my RI Excise taxes. So I went back in and did that but it didn't show up in my refund

How do I add these excise taxes if I already filed and got my refund?  Where would this reply go to?  Thanks michelle

If you have already filed your tax return and you forgot to take a deduction ,  you can file an amended return to fix it. But first you have to wait.

If the IRS rejects your tax return, all you have to do is make the changes on your return and refile.

If the IRS accepts your tax return, wait until you receive your refund, or your payment is processed. Then, go to the link at the bottom of the page for instructions.

Amended returns do not “catch up” to your original return and replace them; they are processed as two separate returns.

Amended returns have to be printed and filed by mail.  It can take the IRS up to 12 weeks or longer to process them.   If you are due a larger refund than on your original return, your amended return should only show the difference and you will receive a separate check for it.  If you owe money on your amended return, it will show only the new amount owed, you will have to mail a check with the return.

It's very important that you take off the deduction that you entered after you filed your return. In order to file an amended return, you have to start with the original return exactly as it was filed.

It's also possible that when you do amend your return, your RI excise taxes aren't enough to increase your refund.https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3288565
