The 1040X has not been finalized by the IRS yet, and thus is not finalized in the TurboTax program. You need to wait until it has been finalized. You can review the amendment instructions in the FAQ below once they become available to ensure you have amended correctly.

After you prepare an amended tax return on a 1040X you mail it in if the new info changes your refund or tax due amount. You cannot e-file an amended return.  They have to be mailed, and it takes up to 16 weeks for the IRS to process an amended return. 3 weeks after you mailed your amendment, you can start tracking its progress at the IRS Where's My Amended Return? site.

Amendment instructions can be found here when they become available for 2017 (early february):   https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3288565

The document that I received was a 1099R from a 401K withdrawal. Do I need to actually amend this years tax document, or could I just wait and file it on next years?

Yes, you'll need to amend. The withdrawal will count toward your 2017 income and will likely lower your refund. You cannot add it to next years return. 2017 tax documents must go on your 2017 return, not your 2018 return.
