I filed my taxes in 2024 for the year 2023. I was due to get back a refund but never received it . How do I go about finding that refund?

Do you know if the 2023 return was successfully filed?   If you efiled it, did you get emails indicating it was transmitted and accepted for processing?    Or did you file on paper by mail?

Start by checking the IRS website's "Where's My Refund" tracker tool for tax year 2023:

Does it find your 2023 return, and if so, what message is shown?

TIP:    When using that tool, select the correct tax year of 2023,  indicate the filing status you used for 2023, your SSN, and the refund amount shown on your 2023 Form 1040, Line 35a.

To find your missing 2023 tax refund, start by checking the IRS "Where’s My Refund?"  You'll need

• Social Security Number
• Filing status, and 
• Exact amount of the refund.

If the status shows 

• Not received, or no information, you will have to re-file the return.
• It was sent but not processed, you may need to file a Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund to start a trace
