The IRS is experiencing delays in processing returns due to a later than usual start to the tax season, a backlog of mailed returns, current tax season returns, and stimulus payments. Please see the below TurboTax Help Articles on why some tax return refunds may longer and what steps you can take:
This is helpful information. My e-file was accepted on February 2 and I'm still "processing," so I guess it's just going to take awhile... however, my friend who used TurboTax and doesn't get the EITC (which I do) got his refund back in two weeks... so who knows what's really going on?
This is normal. It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks to update and show the status. The 21 days is just an estimated time frame. You may have submitted your return on 2/2, but the IRS began processing returns on 2/12, you may not find a record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated. Since Turbo Tax will not have the status of your refund, continue checking the Where’s My Federal Refund tool for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight.
