Hold on to the W2 if the state asks for proof. The state is going to get the same corrected W2 and may be able to match it without you having to do anything. If there's an issue, they will send you a letter and you can send a copy of the corrected W-2 to them at that point.
But if there is no change in reporting the income, taxes witheld, or other pertinent tax calculations, you do not need to amend the return for this to be fixed.
