I filed my 17 year olds tax return last year and she didn't get all her federal taxes back but she did this year? Can I amend them to get the difference?

Wait, do you mean the IRS didn’t send the whole refund or
She didn’t get back all the withholding taken out of her checks?

What do you think was wrong on her return to amend?

like a dummy I didn't print her return so I can't see what I did but I'm thinking I put the right amount of tax on the return but it only gave her like 1/2 that amount back.

Yes someone just said that.  Okay I thought full time students were always exempt & should get their full federal taxes back if they didn't earn like $10K, she earned $8K.  Thank you!

Are your sure she's entitled to a refund for 2017. The standard deduction doubled for 2018. So, it is not unusual for a student to get everything back in 2018, but not 2017.

If she made more than $6350, in 2017 she would not get a full refund. For 2018, she would have to make more than $12.000 to not get a full refund
