I filed an amended return to try to update my payment method to direct deposit from paper check. Will this delay when I get paid on the original return I filed

Sorry you can't amend for that.  And you have to wait to amend until your return is done processing and you get the first refund.  It's too late to change the refund method. 

You filed the amended return?  Besides the Direct Deposit info what was different on it?

And amended return refunds (which can take up to 6 months) are only paid by a check through the mail anyway.
