I filed an amended return last year for tax year 2013 which reimbursed me for previous taxes paid. Now I have two 1099-G forms... do I have to enter year 2013 as income?

It depends. If you received your refund of state tax in 2017, from the amended 2013 tax return AND if you itemized deductions on your 2013 tax return, then you must include the state refund amount.

If, however, you did not itemize deductions in 2013, then you do not have to report that amount as income.  The same applies to for the 2016 return if one of the forms is for last year's refund.

You can go directly to enter your document(s) in TurboTax desktop or online.

  1. Sign into your account and select the return
  2. Select Federal Taxes tab (Personal in TurboTax Home & Biz)
  3. Select Wages & Income (Personal Income in TurboTax Home &Biz)
  4. Scroll to Other Common Income > Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns
  5. Select or Update or Add State and Local Refunds
  6. Continue to follow the program screens.
