I filed an amended return but received the original return's check. What do I do with it and how do I know they've processed the amendment?

Once you've received your original refund, feel free to cash or spend it while your amendment gets processed (this can take 12–16 weeks). Your amended return will take up to 3 weeks after you mailed it to show up in the system.
