The IRS opened for return processing on January 29.   They had a big backlog of returns that had been stockpiled waiting for them to open the 2017 season.

Normally a return is pending no more than 24-48 hours, but there might be a delay right now.  When they start up each year, they don't pull all thestockpiled  returns into their system at once.  They pull them in batches.

You can monitor your efile status by logging in and checking in your account, or you can use this tool:

Once it is is accepted, if you have a Federal refund, you can monitor the refund status at this IRS page.  It may take up to 24 hours after acceptance to appear in the IRS tool.
