I do not owe any back taxes and my tax return was not amended. Why did I receive a different state refund amount than was stated when my taxes were filed and accepted?

My state refund should have been for $187 and I only received $69.

Are you sure the deposit was from the state?   Was the deposit description in your bank account (or card account) for the state tax agency?

A state refund comes directly from the state tax agency to your bank account (or card.)   The state tax agency is the only one who can explain a lower state refund amount than expected.  If they lowered your state refund, they should send you a letter in about 3 weeks or so saying why, but you can phone the state tax agency to inquire, if you wish.

The folks at TurboTax don't get any feedback from the state tax agency about your state refund.

@mesquitebean  Thanks for your quick reply! Yes, I am sure that the refund came from the state, per the description listed on the direct deposit to my bank account. I will contact the state tax agency and see if they can tell me why the amount is different. I appreciate the link you gave as well.
