I didn’t receive my full tax return. What can I do about this?

If you have both Federal and state refunds, they come separately.  Be sure you are not going by a total of the two refunds.  The Federal refund amount you were originally expecting should be on your Federal Form 1040, Line 35a.

If you chose to pay any TurboTax fees out of the Federal refund, then in addition to the fees that are subtracted, there is a $40 service fee for that option ($45 for California filers.)   Also if you chose that "pay out of refund" option, the deposit does not come from the IRS/Treasury.  It comes from a third-party bank that handles that process.  If you used that service, we can tell you how to check with the third-party company (SBTPG.)

What is displayed at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool?

Does it say you are being sent the full amount (as shown on your Form 1040, Line 35a?)  Or is there any message about the amount being adjusted?

If the IRS reduced your refund, they will send a letter in about 3 weeks or so explaining why and what your options are if you disagree.   See this FAQ:

A refund offset is another possibility if you have any delinquent debt.
