I created an amendment but haven't mailed it. is it filed? Will it affect my original return?

I did our original federal/state taxes and filed. Later that day we received a 1098 in the mail that we weren't expecting. I created an amendment and printed it out but have not mailed it? Because it was created does this alert the irs or will they only see it if I mail it. should I wait to mail until I receive original returns. The amendment is in our favor, it makes it so that we are owed and extra $385.

The amendment should be mailed after the IRS has had time to process the original return.  Be sure to include any new forms or schedules that were created from the Form 1098.
