I completed all the steps for my returns, both federal and state show as "PENDING" but...I didn't see any clear confirmation that the forms were submitted through e-file

I was expecting to see a clear message saying "Forms successfully submitted". I didn't see it

DId you go all the way to the final screen and clicked a big button "Transmit My Returns Now?" 

After that, it should have shown a screen with something, but I don't remember the words

Check your email accounts and your spam/junk folders for any email that said the returns were transmitted.

If the Tax Home shows return status of "Pending", then that means that an efile process has been initiated and is awaiting acceptance/rejection.

Thanks for the reply. I eventually did receive the submission confirmation email, it took just a bit longer than other years, but everything seems alright.

That's great news!   I'm glad they came through.  The servers may be overworked today with so many people efiling..

It's stressful enough just getting through the preparation, so hopefully you can now go relax and watch Netflix.  😉
