If you do not meet the criteria to be claimed as someone else's dependent for 2020, you "fix" it by using the recovery rebate credit on your 2020 return.
The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return. If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check this year, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021—if you are eligible. It will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

We know that the IRS is already revising the 2020 Form 1040 to include the 2nd stimulus, but that change will entail a lot of re-programing at the IRS and for the tax software programs. It may be at least a month — or longer— before the forms are changed. Do NOT be in a hurry to file your 2020 tax return until more is known. Give some extra time to the IRS and the software programmers so that the software can handle the new 2nd stimulus, so that you can get it all by filing ONE time. It is never a good idea to file too early; filing your 2020 return too soon may result in a lot of extra confusion that can be avoided if you wait and file a little later.
You might qualify as her dependent even if she didn't claim you. Did you get the first Stimulus Check? How old are you? Do you have income? Are you filing a 2020 return?
You might still get the first one now. The first Stimulus Check is really based on your 2020 return we are filing in 2021. So any amount you already got will be reconciled on your 2020 return line 30. If you didn't get a Stimulus Check (and qualify) or you qualify for more it will be added to your 2020 return. But the good news is if they paid you too much they won't take it back.
I think the second one will be on your tax return also. They are still working on updating the program for it.
When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any. Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus."
she claimed me on her 2018 taxes but not her 2019. She filed her 2019 taxes late tho, like right before they were due after being extended to like jume or july I think of 2020. So I didn’t receive any of the stimulus. I thought i qualified for the second one but I had the box checked that said “someone can claim me as a dependent” I saw somewhere I can ammend my 2019 taxes affix that butI dont know how or where to go about it.
also thank u so much for your response !
sorry these are all over the place but I work for a school district and i’m 22.
You don't need to fix or amend 2019 to get the stimulus. Both the first one and second one will be reconciled on your 2020 return you are filing in 2021.
Do not bother with amending 2019.
