what do you mean the state will be taking your money?  if you owe on the current year return to the state your federal refund will not be taken to pay this.  you must make your own arrangements to pay the state balance due.  however, if there is an offset in effect, it may not matter whether you specify direct deposit or not.  

you can select no direct deposit for the federal refund and not provide any banking info.

I keep getting a 'needs review' for the state of Alabama when it asks about direct deposit, I have select no and yes but either way I keep getting the error,  how should I proceed?
