You do not have to submit an extension request for MA unless you owe taxes. However, you don't need to override the date on your extension request. MA knows their filing deadlines.
Massachusetts automatically gives you a 6-month extension to October 15 if you don't owe. If you do owe, file your extension and submit payment by April 17 to avoid penalties.
