I amended my federal tax by updating the 1099-SA form , but turbox doesn’t even send it to IRS, can you’re me know what happened?

An amended return needs to be printed, ink signed and mailed in.   The 8889 form may not have changed anything on the first page of the 1040X but you still need to mail it in with the form 8889 which did change.

Thanks for the response, but federal tax amendment can be e-filed by turbox, isn’t it? The problem I got is, after I updated my form and submitted, turbox just immediately shows ‘Filed’, but it actually didn’t. The ‘eFail details’ shows it was never sent out.

The federal e-file system shuts down to prepare for the next filing season. If you filed your amendment after November 20, 2021 then the system was shut down and you must either:

  • print, sign, and mail the return or
  • wait for the system to start back up no earlier than January 31, 2022 to file your return using e-file.

Please see How to File an Amended Tax Return with the IRS    and verify in step 4 that you are filing 2019 or later tax return that was originally filed with Turbo Tax.

This is futile. You won't be able to e-File an amendment for a prior year later on.

@newzhou E-filing is permanently closed for 2020 returns or amended 2020 returns.   The only way for you to submit your amended 2020 return is by mail.  Print, sign and mail it---use a mailing service to track it so you will know the IRS received it.

Only some professional tax pros can efile a prior year return once the IRS reopens the efile system in January ... but NONE of the DIY programs allow it at this time.
